Corroborants and Basic substances

Substances that enhance and do not replace agrochemicals, allowing a reduction in the use of synthetic products and the release of residues.

Corroborants and Basic substances are products of natural origin, allowed in organic agriculture, which aim to improve the resistance of plants against biotic stresses and to protect them against abiotic damages. Such substances enhance and do not replace agrochemicals and – if correctly used – they allow a reduction in the use of synthetic products and the release of residues.

The products in this category have different mechanisms of action, specifically the corroborants create a physical barrier, have a phytostimulant function (they promote a self-defense and enhance the action of some antiparasitic products), modify the pH (making it hostile to the development of the pathogens), besides having an adsorbent and dehydrating function. The basic substances, on the other hand, have fungicidal, insecticide and elicitor functions. The above-mentioned products represent an active way towards an ever-sustainable agriculture for humans and the environment.

In light of this sustainable use, we at Hydro Fert recently added a new products category to our catalog, with both natural substances (improving plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stress) and plant extracts.

Three examples of such products are:

Samol: a corroborant based on soft soap, which is able to dissolve and remove the honeydew and the sooty mold caused by cochineals, aphids, whiteflies and psylloidea. The product suffocate the airways of such insects. Finally, Samol has an adhesive and surfactant activity, by enhancing the contact and systemic action of the technical means with which it is mixed.

Nettler: an aqueous nettle extract that contains many biologically active elements, such as tannins, nitrogen compounds, calcium and potassium salts as well as micronutrients. The product has an acaricide, fungicide and insecticidal action. When applied within the different strategies, it allows to amplify and improve the performance of crops protection products used, acting directly on the pathogen and indirectly stimulating the plant’s natural defences.

Girasoil: a corroborant obtained from sunflower seeds (Helianthus annus), that improves plant resistance against biotic and abiotic stress (Oidium neolycopersici). It reduces fungal growth and spore germination on treated surfaces. Besides, it modifies and devitalizes the structure of the cell membrane. It has a fungistatic action carried out in a preventive way, blocking the growth of pathogenic fungi. It also acts against insect vectors of viruses and spiders.
