The P.D.O. « Melanzana Rossa di Rotonda » is an excellence in our country. It is a kind of aubergine cultivated in the province of Potenza (southern Italy), namely in four towns of Mercure Valley (Rotonda, Viggianello, Castelluccio Superiore and Castelluccio Inferiore), the Lucanian side of Pollino National Park.
Its peculiarity is the low content of chlorogenic acid responsible for the fruit’s darkening, so the pulp remains white much longer after the fruit’s cut. Besides, its round shape, similar to tomatoes, makes it unique; as well as its typical orange colour with brownish or greenish veining, which clearly makes it different from all the other varieties of aubergines.
The P.D.O. « Melanzana Rossa di Rotonda » is an undisputed queen of Lucanian gastronomy. In fact, there are many recipes based on it: fried and flavoured with mint and garlic, in oil and combined with other products from Basilicata region, such as “caciocavallo podolico” or sausages.
P.D.O. « Melanzana Rossa di Rotonda » has got African origins and first appeared in Italy thanks to some families from Rotonda who, once had moved to Ethiopia during colonialism, then eventually returned to Italy before the outbreak of war in the country.
Today many local producers tend to grow the P.D.O. « Melanzana Rossa di Rotonda » by using Grow Quick, a Hydro Fert fertilizer belonging to Macronutrients line, containing free amino acids that can be easily absorbed, seaweeds, oligosaccharides, humic acids, betaines and enzymes. Thanks to its formulation Grow Quick provides several benefits, such as: better fertilizers efficiency, stronger root systems, better vegetative growth and fruit setting, bigger fruits with larger size, higher sugar content and stronger resistance to pedoclimatic stress.
Hydro Fert advises using Grow Quick to obtain healthy and abundant yields.
